about

Gifted composer Meeting Molly officially made his debut on our imprint a few months ago with the visionary "You're So Close" EP (w/ Aftruu). His first solo release with us finds the Russian talent traversing "Middle Earth," a three-track EP that pays homage to three fantasy masterpieces.

The title cut begins with a hypnotic tribal groove and the evocative sounds of birds and insects. The first of several vocal chants enters the mix at the quarter turn, as well as a few exotic instrumental motifs, all of which evoke a primitive, Tolkienian setting. A sudden shift in mood occurs at the song's midpoint, when the introduction of a gorgeous new piano theme adds a profoundly emotive undercurrent to the arrangement. The tribal vocals in the song's second half, backed by this poignant piano score, are especially stirring.

Meeting Molly's signature organic percussion guides us through the enchanting world of "Westeros," a geographical term that requires no introduction or context for the many devotees of George R.R. Martin's literary universe. This extraordinarily beautiful composition centers on several breathtaking piano motifs and an equally emotive series of vocal hooks. At the song's climax, heartrending strings offer the gift of a deep spiritual cleanse, as we confront (and finally reconcile) our past sadness.

Closing out the release in dramatic fashion, Meeting Molly's "Cintra" opens with thunderous drums and formidable shouts; clearly a great danger is lurking that needs to be averted. A steady 4/4 tribal house beat arrives soon thereafter, as well as a variety of ominous atmospheric effects and instrumental themes. At the quarter turn, the foreboding tension is somewhat released, as a lush, bell-tinged melody becomes the lead musical element. Later on, during the main breakdown sequence, Meeting Molly employs several different brass and horn instruments to transport the listener to Sapkowski's "bewitching" world.
